Professor
Emeritus Yoshihiko Ogata has received the 2019 Seismological Society of Japan
Award.
Professor Emeritus
Yoshihiko Ogata has been awarded the Seismological Society of Japan Prize for
2019 for his work on "ETAS model for seismic activity and systematization
of statistical seismological theory ". The award is for significant
contributions in both theory and application to the construction of
point-process models such as the ETAS model and its parameter estimation
methods, as well as to earthquake generation modeling such as probability
prediction, anomaly detection, and simulation methods for seismic activity. For
more information, see: Seismological
Society websitefs English translation.
The Seismological
Society of Japan Award was established by the Seismological Society of Japan in
2016 to honor those who have made a significant impact on the development of
seismology on a global scale. The award ceremony will be held at the Fall
Conference of the Seismological Society of Japan in 2020. The winners' comments
will be published in the newsletter of the Seismological Society of Japan at
Vol.73, No. NL2. See: Comments
from the 2019 Seismological Society Award by Prof. Ogata.
