The prediction of complex dynamic phenomena and the analysis of nonlinear
phenomenon have become central topics of the current technical endevours in the
various fields of scientific research.
This series of symposia, which started in 1999 under the sponsorship of the
Institute of Statitical Mathematics, is intended to bring together and exchange
new ideas and methods for attacking
the problems on the fronriers of time series
modeling and related fields.
FTSM-0: March 15, 1999 (ISM, Tokyo, Japan)
FTSM-1: February 7-9, 2000 (ISM, Tokyo, Japan)
This is the second symposium of the FTSM series. The first one was devoted to
a sharply focused area of the time sereies analysis. The second one
will emphsize rather broader area of nonparametric and related
approaches in time
series analysis such as smoothness prior approach,
kernel density estimation, wavelet analysis, independent
component analysis, and artificial neural network.
These methods form indispensable tools for knowledge discovery in time series
data sets which show complicated signature of nonlinearity and nonstationarity.
In order to attain the maximum scientific return in practice, these
nonparametric methods should be tailored to individual problems at hand and
discussed as such. However, it would be very beneficial for scientific
community to develop common techniques on the conceptual or
methodological levels. The
main purpose of this symposium is to bring researchers in various scientific
fields together for reviewing the recent developments and to establish common
methodological ground for pursuing the reaserch of knowledge discovery in time
series analysis and related areas.
We think that it is timely to have this symposium focused
on nonparametric approaches at the end of 20th century!
Within the scope of this conference include, but not limited to,
the following areas:
---Methodology
a) smoothing procedure, noise suppression, data compression
b) signal decomposition, inverse problems in time series analysis
c) estimation of nonstationary power spectrum
d) identification of dynamical systems in chaos
e) estimation of probabilistic density function
f) nonparametric approach for knowledge discovery in databases
---Application domain
1) biological time series
2) medical time sequences
3) time series in earth and space sciences
4) communication techniques
The symposium site,
Nara, was the old Japanese capital in the 8th century
and there are many famous national treasuries.
Nara is close to Kyoto (30-40 minutes by train) and
is easily accessed from the second largest international
airport in Japan,
"Kansai international airport".
There are direct flights from major cities to Kansai international
airport. The conference hall
is surrounded by a beautiful mountain
-- Abstract Submission Guidline:
The symposium will offer a poster session on the above-mentioned topics.
Both theoretical research and applications papers are solicited.
If you are interested in giving a poster presentation, please submit
your abstract by October 16, 2000 by using the
following submission form.
On-Line Submission Form (Deadline is over)
-- Manuscript Submission Guideline:
The authors are required to prepare a manuscript by
November 15, 2000.
The procedure for submission of papers includes the following guidelines:
(1) The paper must be in English.
(2) The paper should not exceed
10 (2 for poster session)
single-spaced pages of text using 12 or 11 point size
type on 8.5 x 11 inch (letter (A4) size) pages.
YOUR PAPER MUST BE CAMERA READY.
(3) The paper should include title, authors'
names, postal and e-mail addresses, an approximately 200 word summary,
up to 5 keywords.
(4)
The paper is expected to be prepared under the style files
supplied by the publisher (Kluwer Academic, Japan).
We are assuming that you use latex209
and have the epsfig package. Please
try to compile the exaism_ftsm2.tex file. It contains info on how to do
tables,figures and references.
