The postdoc is expected to carry out the international joint project between the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Japan, and Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Department of Bernhard Schoelkopf, Germany. The position is funded by the ISM NOE Project for Statistical Mathematics: "Statistical Machine Learning."
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher for carrying out a project in collaboration with the two institutions. The project aims to study theory and methods of machine learning approaches to statistical inference, with focuses on nonparametric and Bayesian inference by kernel method, dependence and causality by machine learning approaches, and inference with high-dimensional data.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have a strong background in at least one of mathematics, statistics, computer science, machine learning, and related fields. The postdoc position is provided for two years. The possibility of the extension to the third year can be negotiated. The salary will be in the range of about 4,500,000 - 6,000,000 JPY (before tax and insurance) based on the research career of the applicant.
