研究目的と成果（経過）の概要

　植物の形態を正確に測るということは植物の育種の際の精密さに関係している。多くの植物育種において、その形態を育種家の経験による分類により評価するため、主観的な選択になってしまっていた。選抜を客観的に行うため、また、膨大な数の個体の早期選抜を行うために、植物の形態の定量的な評価法の確立と利用を目的として、本共同研究に取り組んできた。
　形態の数値化のために既存のフーリエ記述子だけでなく、本研究を通して提案したP型フーリエ記述子を用いている。後述のように数々の成果を挙げてきたが、本年度は、本共同研究の中心メンバーであった故平田豊東京農工大教授（2010年11月18日逝去）が指導してきた鈴木克彰氏等による論文を共同研究の成果を活用して発表することができた。同氏は、この業績等により、東京農工大から学位を授与された。平田教授が逝去したことにより、本共同研究は終了とする。
