• 統計的モデリングによって大量時系列データから情報抽出･知識発見を行うための 方法の開発とその応用に関する研究

• 非ガウス型フィルタリング・平滑化のアルゴリズムの開発 広範な非定常・非線形・非ガウス型の時系列モデルを統一的に取り扱うための 一般化状態空間モデルを提案し，フィルタリング・平滑化の公式と，関連する 計算法を開発した．これによって，非線形・非定常時系列のモデリングのための 強力な手段を提供できたと考えている. 討論付き論文[4]では，非ガウス型状態空間モデルの平滑化の公式と数値積分 による計算法および非定常時系列および離散過程への応用を示した. [5]ではこの方法によって，非線形フィルタが厳密に構成できることを 示し，従来の近似的方法よりも遙かによい結果が得られることを示した． [6]では非ガウス型分布を混合正規で近似するガウス和フィルタが平滑化 にも拡張できることを示し，非ガウス型季節調整法を実現した． [7]では，従来の方法とは全く異なり，確率分布関数を多数の粒子で近似する ことにより，複雑かつ高次元の一般型状態空間モデルのフィルタおよび平滑化を 行う方法を提案した． さらに，[8]では状態推定とパラメータ推定を同時に行う方法を開発した．

• 非定常時系列モデルの開発 共同研究における様々な現実の問題に関連し, 多様な非定常時系列のモデリングの方法を開発した． [9]ではHouseholder変換を用いてOzaki-Tongの局所定常ARモデルを精度よく， 高速に推定する方法を開発した。この方法はその後，地震研究所や北海道大学などで 地震波到着時刻の自動推定に利用されている[14]。 [10]は状態空間モデルを用いる非定常時系列の解析法の一連の仕事の先駈けと なった論文で，トレンド推定、季節調整の方法を開発した． [11]では時変ARモデルの推定法と時変スペクトルの推定法を提案した． [12]は超パラメータが変化する時変ARモデルを開発し、地震データの解析への 応用を示した。

• 地球科学における信号処理問題 地震に関連したデータの自動処理・信号抽出の研究を行った. [13]では状態空間モデルによってノイズに埋もれた微小地震波を抽出する方法を 開発した． [14]では多次元の局所定常ARモデル([10])により、S/N比が非常に悪い場合や P-波中のS-波の到着時刻が可能となる方法を開発した。 [15]では状態空間モデルを利用して、非常に多数の欠測値および異常値を自動的に 処理する方法を開発した．この結果、過去十数年に蓄積した 地下水位データの有効利用が可能となった。 さらに新しいモデルの開発により、地下水位の変化から気圧・潮汐・ 降雨の影響を取り除くことにより地震の影響を検出することに成功した。

• 季節調整法と金融・経済データの解析法 [16]では状態空間モデルによる季節調整法に関連し，長期予測尤度を提案した． [17]では，状態空間モデルによる季節調整法を実用化したセンサス局における共同研究 の結果をまとめたものである．この方法に関連して，季節調整プログラムDECOMP([S3]) を開発した．

• 情報量規準に関する研究 情報量規準AICの適用範囲を拡大するための研究を行った. [18]では統計的汎関数で定義される一般的な推定量に対して適用可能な情報量規準 GICを提案した．AICやTICの拡張と考えることができる． [19]ではブートストラップ法によって，広範なモデルに対して適用可能な情報量規準 EICを提案した．

• 主要な共同研究
  • 東京商船大学・大津皓平氏ほか 統計的モデルの利用により自動操舵システムの開発・実用化に成功した[20]． その後，主機関の制御や，船体運動の統合的制御などの研究も行った． 現在は波の方向スペクトルの推定の問題などを研究している([B4],[B9])．
  • 北海道大学地震予知観測センター・高波鉄夫氏ほか 地震波の到着時刻の推定，微小信号の検出の研究を行った． 特に到着時刻の自動推定の方法は，震源の推定業務に実際に利用されている [12],[13]．
  • 地質調査所・松本則夫氏ほか 地下水位データの欠測値・異常値を処理し， 地震の影響を検出する方法を開発した． 現在は地下構造推定のためのアレイデータの解析法を検討している[15]
  • ハワイ大学・Will Gersch氏 状態空間モデル・平滑化事前分布にもとずく時系列解析法を研究し， 季節調整，時変モデル，信号抽出など様々な分野で成果を得ることが できた[12],[16],[17]． [B5]に関連して開発した一連のモデリングの方法といくつかの成果をまとめた．
  • 合衆国センサス局・David F. Findley氏ほか 季節調整法に関する共同研究を行っている.
  • 九州大学・小西貞則氏 情報量規準に関する共同研究を行っている[18]． 最近は，バイアスの高次近似やブートストラップ推定における 分散減少に関する研究を行っている.
