チュートリアルのアブストラクト
The current debate on data science and statistics is reminiscent of earlier clashes between proponents of "exploratory" data analysis versus inferential statistics. In particular, throughout the 70s and 80s of last century, a group of researchers in the Netherlands developed what may now be referred to as "the Gifi system of nonlinear multivariate data analysis". Two important properties of the Gifi system are its focus on categorical data and its lack of distributional assumptions. In this presentation, I will give a brief overview of the Gifi system and relate it to other well-known multivariate analysis methods such as principal component analysis, (multiple) correspondence analysis and (generalized) canonical correlation analysis.
