Science of Modeling — The 30th Anniversary of the Information Criterion (AIC) — Pacifico Yokohama December 14-17, 2003 Scope
Modeling complex phenomena is the central endeavor in every field of scientific research and engineering development. In the past three decades we have seen enormous advancement
in the statistical modeling methodology, which includes various Information Criteria, Bayesian approaches and statistical algorithms. The symposium is organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Information Criterion, which is one of the most notable contributions by Dr. Hirotugu Akaike, who pioneered in all the three areas. The main focus of the symposium is to promote the 'Science of Modeling' in the practical pursuits of solutions of the problems that contemporary society presents. Topics
Knowledge discovery in complex systems via modeling Statistical modeling of spatio-temporal phenomena Bayesian modeling for ill-posed decomposition problems Progress in the AIC statistics (Poster session for which contributed papers of the same focus are called for) Co-sponsors
